Preetmohan ("Preet") Singh was involved in American politics at The Interfaith Alliance (TIA), a non-profit advocacy organization based in Washington, DC from 2005-2008. From 2002-2005, Singh was National Director of the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF). Singh, a Sikh, has made over 100 public presentations about post-9/11 civil liberties issues, Sikh-American culture, and civil rights history at conferences, universities, and law enforcement agencies. He also produced The Sikh Next Door, a multi-media film project that encourages students to celebrate diversity. He co-produced the award-winning PBS documentary film "A Dream in Doubt" with Tami Yeager. The film explores the aftermath of the first post-9/11 hate crime fatality of a Sikh gas station owner in Mesa, Arizona on September 15, 2001. Singh serves on the National Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Healy Fellows at Georgetown University. He is the recipient of Sikh Council of Religion and Education’s Leadership and Service Award (2006) and the Men Can Stop Rape’s “Man of Strength” Leadership Award (2006). Born in New Delhi, India, Singh moved to the U.S. at age 10. He attended public schools in California and graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
